KANNAWIDAN, THE HEART OF ILOCANOS






During the last weeks of January to the first week of February, Kannawidan – an Ilocano festival usually occurs. It’s usually celebrated with a lot of events and the iconic trade fair. Tourists from different areas usually come and visit while Ilocanos make time for this festival. It surely is a time to honor our traditions and cultures. 


Most of the events usually feature Ilocano's skills and talents, such as art and music. Kannawidan is important for us Ilocanos since it is a commemoration of the foundation of the province of Ilocos Sur. This festival gives a chance for Ilcanos to show their talents and skills while honoring our history, culture, and tradition. The trade & food fair gives chance for local business to be discovered. Asides from that, the trade fair showcases each municipality’s products. Kannawidan is also important for our tourism since it attracts tourists and helps them know more about our province. It provides families and friends create more memories for them to cherish. 


Kannawidan only happens once a year, but the effects of it can last a whole year. With memories that will be forever cherished and talents being discovered. This festival shows how talented and culture-rich Ilocos Sur is. Kannawidan is an important part of our heritage and our identity.
