Our Faith is Stronger

Lenten is the most solemn season that can be observed in the Philipines. It is a season of prayer and penance – a season of reflecting. The Philippines spend the Lenten season with events such as Daan ng Krus, Pabasa, Viernes Dolores, Pagpapaligo sa ‘Amba’, Senakulo, Linggo ng Palaspas, Prusisyon, Visita Iglesia, Penitencia, and Paglilibing. This is alongside fasting and abstinence. Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten Season, and Easter Sunday marks the end. Lenten shows the passion of Christ, and Catholics during this season reflect and be thankful for their savior, our Lord Jesus Christ.

The events mentioned were a tradition, but because of the pandemic. These events went to a halt for 2 years. This 2022, according to Inquirer, Ash crosses were received by Catholics on Wednesday (March 2) as they were invited by the Church to “repent and believe in the Gospel.”

Simple for some, but this shows that everything is slowly getting back to normal, and this may be a sign that we can spend the Lenten season like how we spent it before the pandemic struck. These events are really important, as we can see here the Passion of Christ. Events such as the Linggo ng Palaspas replicate what happened in the Bible. These events help us to repent, but because of the pandemic, we weren't able to experience these for2 years. Nevertheless, our faith won't be shaken by this. Virtual Mass was available, and families all over the nation observed abstinence and fasted.

Our faith is stronger than this pandemic. No Virus can stop us from repenting. Despite all the hindrances, Lent will always be celebrated – we will always find a way.
