THE FALL OF BATAAN
Bataan has seen one of the fiercest fights in the Philippines’ history. It became a warzone during World War II. Brutal and Catastrophe is an understatement for it has seen over 76,00 people shed blood and drop dead at the hands of the Japanese. On the 9th of April, 1942, we have seen Bataan fall, yet this was a gateway for the Philippines to rise, and escape the hands of the colonizers.
Today, We celebrate the 9th of April as our Independence Day. A commemoration of the day thousands of Filipinos have sacrificed their lives for us. The day Bataan fell was the day Filipinos had a chance to rise above the hands of the people who have stolen our land. Although it was bloody, it had made a mark on our History. On “Araw ng Kagitingan” we commemorate the lives of those who fought for us, we commemorate how strong Bataan is, and we celebrate our independence.
Bataan stands tall amidst the bloodshed that has happened within it. It stood up, despite its catastrophic fall. Somehow, It is a reflection of us, the Filipino people, for we will always stand strong, even after the greatest fall. We will come back, maybe even stronger than before.
